Microsoft Outlook: There's a big image file in there

  • dans / 204 / Fri, 26 Feb 2010 12:56:00 GMT / Comments (7)
  • Hi
I have rec'd several emails which have a picture file of obvious size, but
do not show up as attachments, or show in the window. They are in code,
visible in Source but not otherwise.
    OE 5 on a G3, OS 9.2.2.
Help me get them to show!
    Thanks
    dan

I would try to increase the memory assigned to Outlook Express...
      <http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tg.online/macfaq/articles/038.html>

      ...and then compact the database...
      <http://homepage.ntlworld.com/tg.online/keyboard/oe5_database.html>

If that doesn't work, ask the sender to send the file again.

If you need to reply directly to me, just remove the capitalised letters
from my faked e-mail address. Otherwise, please post back to the
      newsgroups.

    2. The images I cannot get at are only from a mass mailer (totally voluntary, I
      want them.)
      Have compressed several times.
      TIA

Perhaps Outlook Express is treating the message as spam/junk, and therefore
refusing to display the pictures for reasons of security. Can you view
      pictures sent in other messages?

    4. Should I move the slider-bar of the spam filter to less stringent?
Yes, I'm getting pics from individuals, and maybe not from mass mailings.
But the mass mailers are in my address book.

I'm not sure what else to suggest on this one, Dan. I wonder if the issue
is related to the way the mass mailings are composed? There can't be any
major issue with your installation of OE, otherwise you wouldn't be able to
receive any images within e-mails at all. I guess you could try playing
with spam settings, but I don't get the impression that this will really fix
      anything.

I'm using Entourage now and that gives the user the explicit option to
download images if they were not already displayed within the message. I
don't believe that OE has the same feature.

      Hi chaps,
OE 5.0.6, Prefs, Display, Show attached pictures in messages.
Which may baulk at big images.

Try Tools, Accounts, edit Account, Options, Partially retreive messages over
a certain size? uncheck this for a while.

Empty MS Internet Cache, (search for "OE5Cache.waf"), mine is 10MB, I think
the size was dictated by Explorer? If this is smaller than the images you
are expecting, you may be out of luck (or get MSIE 517 classic/523 X from a
backup, and adjust the cache size?).

      HTH, &B-) Ian
(false address), please reply to newsgroup!

    7. If I hit "forward" the message appears in the outgoing message!
I'm thinking in some cases the pic file has a bad name such as
      pic.filejpg.jpg
