System requirements for Windows XP
XP will run on a Pentium 233 with 64MB of ram. Well, run is a bit of a misnomer, crawl is more like it.
XP on a PII 400 with 128MiB of ram is usable for email and browsing, simple games (pogo/yahoo, but some are pretty choppy), most school stuff (word processing, small spreadsheets). Don't plan on having a lot of apps open at the same time. Upgrading to 256MiB of ram (or more) will make a BIG difference.
For under $400 you can get a 1.5-2.0GHz system with 512MiB-1GiB RAM, 80GB Hard drive, and XP Pro. Depending on how old your PC is, the cost to buy XP and another 128MiB of ram could be almost 1/3 to 1/2 that amount, and it wouldn't run as well. Check out www.newegg.com, www.tigerdirect.com, or www.pricewatch.com for systems, or you can build your own.

nig68:
I've run Windows XP just fine on a Compaq Presario 5900T desktop with an Intel Pentium III 733 MHz processor and 384 MB of RAM and on a HP Pavilion 8565 desktop with an Intel Pentium III 500 MHz processor and 384 MB of RAM, but I had them configured to run with very few programs running in the background, with very little graphic "eye candy", with the settings tweaked for maximum performance, and with the junk files and useless programs cleaned out.
128 MB of RAM won't do it for Windows XP, no matter how fast the processor is.
What is the brand name, model name, and model number of your computer?
