Microsoft MS DOS/95/98/me: upgrade from ME to W2K

Finally upgraded to W2K!
Everything went smoothly except I lost all of my old email from outlook express. The files in W2K OE appear to have a .dbx extension but I can't open any. I do a search for and when I try to open the open with box comes up but no Out Express option is available and when I do other and look in program file and then OE none of the .exe's in that folder will do the trick. Also as an aside when the "other" box comes up it has the box for "Always use this program to open this type of file" always checked.
Is there any way to have the open with box appear without that box checked and additionally if you mistakenly choose the wrong app. and leave the box checked how do you recover from that mistake?
To get back to the OE problem can anyone tell me what the extension is for mail files in ME OE is and how to open .dbx files in W2K? Or more directly how do I recover my old mail files?
