What OS are you running? I will assume that it's 98. Hit the "Start"button, then "run", then type MSCONFIG. Goto the Startup tab at the top. Now you can check off the programs that you don't want starting. Be carefull though, some of the programs listed there are needed. If you have any doubts, come back here and ask if it is safe to remove it/them.

Just go to start/run, type in msconfig and in that window click on the start ups tab. All your programs running at startup will be right there. Un-check the ones you don't want running (MUST leave systray, explorer & BOTH load power profiles for sure.) You will be prompted to re-start for the changes to take effect. Do so, and then upon re-start you will see a message telling you that you're starting in "selective mode" (or something to that effect) check the box NOT to show the message again. If you're unsure what you NEED there, here is a good place to check

OR, go to start, run and type in msinfo32, then go to software environment, start up programs, and copy paste the list back here and we can help you "weed through" it!
That should do it!
Hope this helps!!
TT
Edit: sorry, JAGS isn't as long winded as I am!! He beat me to the submit button...but, you get the idea right??

From Start button> Run> type in box there
msconfig
Find the "Startup" tab up at top right of window
Uncheck undesired programs only- only what you know
are 3rd party or unneccessary, like what you have listed.
Office need not run at startup, if you have that. Real Player,
Messengers, things like that, make sure you leave your
Antivirus... like I said, some things there should not be
unchecked...better if you post what all you have starting up
here! (I seem to have misplaced link to Startlog where
you can download small tool to use to post startups- anyone
have that handy?)
